Bishops Knoll
Located at Stoke Bishop in North West Bristol on the East side of the Avon Gorge, Bishops Knoll is an attractive, steeply sloped woodland.
It is a 3 hectare mixed woodland which is owned and managed by the Woodland Trust. It has good views and is a site of local nature conservation.
The woodland also has an interesting history. It was once part of a medieval deer park, then in the late nineteenth century it became the grounds of The Knoll, with a series of terraced gardens, orchards, lawns, padocks and an arboretum.
In 1970, the mansion was then demolished and the site of the house was developed into flats.
It wasn't until 1986 that the Woodland Trust acquired the site and planted the paddock with mixed broadleaves.
What you see today is a mixture of mature and new woodland, terraced gardens, a gazebo and significant feature trees.
Access
The wood has a good number of well used paths.
How to get there...
Bishops Knoll is accessible from the point at which Bramble drive meets Bramble Lane in Stoke Bishop. Car parking is available.
