Ridgewood

Ridge Wood Local Nature Reserve is long narrow woodland on the edge of Chipping Sodbury which is popular with local people and schools.  The Forest of Avon, South Gloucestershire Council and the friends group have organised several woodland activities and wood school events in the Reserve in recent years.  The woodland provides a pleasant setting for a quiet walk with the chance of seeing a variety of wildlife including woodland wildflowers and birds.

Access

A level, surfaced footpath with disabled access runs along the length of the woodland.  Other rough paths allow you to explore further into the Reserve.

Getting There

Ridge Wood is between Yate and Chipping Sodbury, about 12 miles north of Bristol. There are a number of entrances to the site.  The Frome Valley Walkway passes the south entrance of the Reserve and then continues to the Cotswold Hills.  Buses from Yate Shopping Centre run to close to the site.  Yate train station is 1½ miles from the Reserve.

Get Involved

The nature reserve is managed by a local conservation group which organises a range of events and practical workdays to help raise awareness of the nature reserve and to enhance its biodiversity.  More information is available from the dedicated website: http://www.ridge-wood.org.uk/
