Silver Street

Silver Street Local Nature Reserve lies close to the southern edge of Midsomer Norton.

The site is made up of woodland, meadow, a series of springs, an old stone springhead and a pond. Originally it would have been part of the estate connected to Norton House which was demolished in the 1930's.

There are indications that there has been woodland on the site for hundreds of years. Tree species include oak, ash, hazel and it is thought that it was traditionally managed as a coppice. This would account for the colourfulrange of spring flowers that are to be found under the trees such as Bluebells, Dog Violets, Celandines and Ramsons (wild garlic).

There is an assortment of wildflowers to be found in the meadow. Aslo keep an eye out for foxes, badgers, bats and field voles.

Access

The site is on a hillside therefore there are some slopes. There are two surfaced paths in the woodland; one of which is relatively level and the other which has some steps. There are no surfaced paths through the meadow.

An access audit has been written for the site and improvements are planned for the future. However, in the meantime if you require more detailed information please contact Miriam Woolnough on 01225 477 612.
