Wooscombe Wood
Planted in 1993 by a local farmer, this new broadleaf woodland of some 40 hectares is one of the largest new woodlands in the Forest of Avon. The woodland is now well established and offers superb panoramic views of the Chew Valley and the north east Somerset countryside.
The site also has a number of older woodlands within the new planting. The wood is very well maintained and managed and has full public access.
Access
There are some climbs and steep slopes. All paths are grass. Most entrances are via kissing gates, although some ladder stiles are still used in some areas to give access to the woodland over deer fencing. There is a programme in place to replace ladder stiles with kissing gates over the whole site. There is a car park for approx 8 cars.
How to get there...
You can get to Wooscombe Wood from Slate Lane in Compton Dando. There is a small car parking area on Slate Lane. (OS grid reference ST636 653 for car park).
If possible, please try to use environmentally friendly forms of transport wherever possible. The site can be easily accessed via a number of public footpaths as well as by bicycle. Click here to view the Sustrans website showing a map of the National Cycle Network around Wooscombe Wood.
