Local Tree Action

The Garden Forest- Bringing the Benefits of Trees Home

The Garden Forest is a growing area of work for the Trust. We will be working with people across the West of England to promote the many benefits of trees and inspire them to take action by planting a tree or shrub in their front garden. This will not only directly benefit residents, but also provide robust habitats for wildlife, contribute to a positive image for a neighbourhood and help adapt to a changing climate.

The first phase of the Garden Forest will run in 2010/11. Initial survey work of areas of low tree cover in Cadbury Heath, Staple Hill, Fishponds Road, Worle and the Portway are being undertaken. The next step is to work with local community facilities to promote free trees/ shrubs for front garden planting and invite people to apply for these. Trees/ shrubs will then be given out, with planting guidance and a window sticker. There are great pr and csr opportunities for businesses to be associated with the Garden Forest. The greater the sponsorship we can attract, the more trees will be planted.

So if you are a business wanting to sponsor the scheme, a community centre which would like to work with us on this, or someone who wants to do their bit, email: jonclark@forestofavontrust.org  .

Natural Connections- Helping People with Mental Health Needs

This exciting project is buidling on the best practice of Wood School (below) and is working across the West of England, involving children and older people with mental health needs in their local trees and woodlands. It will further demonstrate the value of trees to the learning and fulfilment of all sections of the community. For more information about the project, please contact jonattwood@forestofavontrust.org  .Background information is provided below.

Wood School- Linking People with Local Woodlands

The Trust is continuing this successful project which has done so much to demonstrate the value of trees, woodlands and green spaces in the education and development of children. we are currently working with Goblin Combe Environment Centre to deliver Wood School as a component of the Exploring Your World programme with 8 schools in/ around Worle. We can offer Wood School at a day rate of £200. Please contact jonclark@forestofavontrust.org  for more information.

Future Woods

The Trust allows donors to sponsor the acquisition of land and planting of new woodlands, making a lasting difference to the quality of life of the West. This is also a unique opportunity for your legacy to be recognised through your (woodland) name, which will be on mapping for hundreds of years to come.

To find out how you can get involved in any of these projects, please email: Jon Clark.
